Little Free Libraries
Portsmouth Public Library's Little Free Libraries are positioned throughout the city and provide free, quality materials for the public.
What is a Little Free Library?
A Little Free Library is more like a book swap. Take a book to keep, or leave a book you're done with! Materials in the Little Free Library are for everyone to share, so enjoy them for as long as you like, or bring them back to the Little Free Library.
No library card necessary. Everyone is welcome.
Where are PPL's Little Free Libraries?
The library has Little Free Libraries in the following locations:
- Osprey Landing
- Greenleaf Recreation Center
- The Pines / Arbor View Apartments
- Senior Activity Center
- Community Campus
- Portsmouth Music and Arts Center
- Gosling Meadows
- Ruth Lewin Griffin Place
Each Little Free Library has a Portsmouth Public Library staff "steward" who visit periodically to sort and restock the library.
The library also stewards three additional, indoor collections at:
- Gather
- Cross Roads House
- Here at Portsmouth Public Library - visit the second floor next to the elevator!
Visit our Google Map to see all locations!
What else do I need to know?
Books from the Little Free Libraries do not need to be returned. Likewise, please do not return Portsmouth Public Library books to the Little Free Library. How do you know the difference? A library book has a barcode on the front, so we can check it out to you - please return those directly to the Portsmouth Public Library at 175 Parrott Avenue.
We could not have completed this project without Loreley Godfrey, planner, builder, and Eagle Scout. ❤️
