Wastewater Pumping Stations

Wastewater pumping stations are necessary in a sewer collection system to lift wastewater from low elevations in the system to a higher elevation in the system as it is conveyed toward a treatment facility. The City has 20 wastewater pumping stations: 19 located within the Peirce Island WWTF Collection System and one located within the Pease WWTF Collection System.

Each wastewater pumping station serves a specific area of the sewer collection system. The largest wastewater pumping station in the system is the Mechanic Street Pumping Station which conveys all the wastewater flow from the City treated at the Peirce Island WWTF.  The second and third largest wastewater pumping stations are the Deer Street Pumping Station and the Lafayette Road Pumping Station.
