Sidewalk Reconstruction

Citywide Sidewalks Projects:

This project includes the reconstruction of the sidewalk system at multiple locations throughout the City currently under contract for construction.

Project Status: 

  • Pannaway Phase 2 
    • Sidewalk reconstruction on Decatur and Mason Street is now substantially complete. Asphalt sidewalks have been removed and areas with no new sidewalks were loamed.

    • 2024 Scope of Work (Feb 2024)
  • Ocean Road Crossing at Maplewood
    • Awaiting final NHDOT Approvals

Borthwick Avenue Bike Path:

This project includes the construction of a multi-use path along Borthwick Avenue from Route 1 By-Pass to the multi-use path being constructed at the satellite parking lot for Portsmouth Hospital.

Project Status: 

New curb, base aggregates and base layer of pavement – Completed Fall 2023

Final layer of pavement and restoration – Anticipated Spring / Summer 2024

Maplewood Avenue Sidewalk Replacement

This project includes the reconstruction of the sidewalk system from the railroad track crossing near Deer Street up to Dennett Street along the south side of the road and from Mill Pond Way to the North Mill Pond Causeway along the north side of Maplewood Avenue.

Elwyn Park Sidewalks/Sidepath 

This project will provide safe pedestrian connections and traffic calming throughout the Elwyn Park Neighborhood. A feasibility study has been completed using prior year Capital funding which identified priority streets within the neighborhood for addition of sidewalks and recommended traffic calming measures.
